The exhibition “Between the fishing and weaving lines” was conceived by Conceição Abreu to create a contemporary dialogue with the collections of this museum and Portimão’s fishing history.
The artist presents a selection of works of different types, with various techniques, such as drawings, sculptures, installations and photographs that evoke the theme of the museum, where fishing and weaving lines meet.
The artist’s commitment to her work leads her to seek the limits of materials, concretizing them into works of art and granting them immortality. The exhibition expands the idea of perpetuity to the concept of fishing nets used and mended by fishermen.
“Between the fishing and weaving lines”, it also reflects the path that Conceição Abreu has been following, in her incessant search for the simplicity of the gesture, in the purity of the materials used in the construction of her works and in the subtlety and clarity of her draws. As a result, this exhibition is almost a retrospective exhibition where the lightness of the displayed works fits into a poetic narrative expanded in time.
